I.S.U. - Inflatable Survival Unit (100% Rubber Competition Highly Commended Award, United Kingdom)
100% Rubber is an annual competition sponsored by the Dalsouple rubber company. It's goal is to find innovative uses for rubber. The Inflatable Survival Unit (ISU) was Highly Commended under the Products category. It was also chosen through this competition to exhibit at the 100% Design show in the United Kingdom, 2000.
The float-able rubber unit is designed to fit a family of 4 to 5 people during emergencies such as floods or other natural disasters, and to be able to help them survive until they can be rescued. Included in the "kit" are emergency food and medical supplies, a flexible solar panel to generate enough power for a flashlight / strobe-light, CO2 inflation system and a pump. In these kinds of emergencies, every extra day means lives saved. The unit, when collapsed, becomes very compact and can easily be air-lifted by helicopters and dropped into areas where roads cannot reach.
